IB Education
At ISA, we believe in preparing students not just for the next stage in their education, but for life. An International Baccalaureate (IB) education is central to achieving this mission.
The IB is a globally recognized program known for its academic rigor, its focus on developing critical thinking skills, and its commitment to fostering international-mindedness. This educational framework is designed to produce well-rounded individuals who can thrive in a globalized world.
ISA has been an IB World School since 2008, starting with the authorization to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The following year, we expanded our offerings to include the IB Diploma Programme (DP). Since then, we have consistently met the high standards set by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO), which has commended us for our dedication to continuous improvement and for fostering a strong sense of community within our school:
The IB has commended ISA on 'its success in developing a strong learning community where different points of view are honored and where there is an open and free exchange of ideas' (IB Evaluation Report April 2017)
How the IB Defines ISA
Our commitment to the IB is a reflection of our values as a school. We focus on more than just academic success. We aim to develop students who are inquisitive, knowledgeable, caring, and ready to contribute to a more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The transdisciplinary skills and Approaches to Learning (ATLs) that are a hallmark of the IB help our students develop as independent learners who can think critically, communicate effectively, and approach challenges with confidence.
At ISA, we are also dedicated to ensuring that our teachers are well-equipped to deliver the IB curriculum. All staff receive extensive, ongoing training, often through external professional development provided by the IBO itself, ensuring that they remain at the forefront of educational best practices.
What Are ATLs?
Approaches to Learning (ATLs) are key skills that help students learn more effectively and become independent thinkers. We focus on developing these skills across five areas:
- Self-Management: Organizing time, setting goals, and managing tasks.
- Research: Finding, evaluating, and using information.
- Communication: Sharing ideas clearly in both writing and speaking.
- Social Skills: Working well with others and resolving conflicts.
- Thinking Skills: Critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.
IB Learner Profile
At the heart of the IB program is the Learner Profile, a set of attributes that encourages students to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners. These attributes guide students to excel academically while making positive contributions to their communities and the world.
