Learning Support

USstudents1-hero.jpg

At ISA, we are committed to supporting every student’s unique learning journey. Our Learning Support programme is designed to ensure that all students, regardless of their individual needs, have the opportunity to succeed and thrive in our diverse and inclusive community. Whether it's mastering a new language, receiving academic guidance, or ensuring social-emotional well-being, our experienced educators are here to help every step of the way.

Language Support

We understand that language plays a crucial role in learning and social integration, which is why we offer comprehensive support for students learning English, German, or maintaining their mother tongue.

Learning English

English is the primary language of instruction at ISA. For students who are new to English, we provide specialised support in small groups. Our experienced teachers offer tailored lessons, enabling students to quickly gain confidence and proficiency in English. We also extend our support to parents, offering English language classes for adults, so the whole family can feel more connected to our community.

Learning German

As a school in Germany, we place great value on learning the German language. All students at ISA are expected to learn German, with classes tailored to both native speakers and German as an Additional Language (GAL) learners. Parents are also welcome to join our German classes for adults, supporting the whole family's integration into our host country.

Mother Tongue Support

We recognize the importance of maintaining a connection to one's native language. For students whose first language is neither English nor German, we offer weekly support in their mother tongue, such as Japanese, Spanish, Russian, and more. For our older students, especially those pursuing the IB Diploma, the opportunity to study their first language as a course subject (Language A) is available.

Academic Support

ISA is dedicated to recognizing and nurturing each student’s potential. Our Unique Potential Policy ensures that students’ learning needs are identified early, and targeted interventions are provided. Whether it’s differentiated instruction, additional tutoring, or exam accommodations, we are committed to providing the right support at the right time.

In the Lower School, our targeted learning support includes regular assessments and individualised learning plans. In the Upper School, students benefit from tailored support during critical stages, such as the IGCSE and IB Diploma programs, ensuring they are prepared for their future pathways, whether that includes university, vocational training, or other pursuits.

Social-Emotional Learning and Pastoral Care

Beyond academics, we believe in supporting the whole child. Our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program, integrated across all grade levels, helps students develop resilience, empathy, and a strong sense of self. Pastoral care is central to our approach, with advisors and counsellors available to support students’ emotional well-being and personal growth throughout their time at ISA.

Pathways for Learning at ISA

At ISA, students have the flexibility to choose a learning pathway that aligns with their goals, abilities, and future aspirations. From the comprehensive IGCSE and IB Diploma Programme to certificates and the High School Diploma, we offer a range of options that cater to diverse needs. Our dedicated counsellors work closely with each student, guiding them through their academic journey to ensure they make informed decisions about their future.
